Year-Round News & Updates on the Minnesota Timberwolves
The Memphis Grizzlies are looking to move small forward Rudy Gay and his big contract as they've proven as a team (in the past) that they can definitely compete and win without him. Also assuming with the pieces they receive in return would help fill Gay's void.
The Grizzlies are most certainly shopping him, despite reports from their front office saying otherwise. It was reported earlier this week that the Golden State Warriors said no to an offer and that's when Memphis turned to Minnesota. It's unknown of the exact proposal the Grizz made to David Kahn, but reports say his response was immediate: NO. As such it's safe to assume the deal likely involved Kevin Love and/or Ricky Rubio/Nikola Pekovic. Kahn has said in the past that Kevin & Ricky are the two 'untouchables' on this team, I have no reason to doubt that, that will hold true as we approach next month's Trade Deadline. My guess is that Gay ends up with the Toronto Raptors. They've been a team who've continually pursued free agent small forwards in hopes of nabbing a franchise cornerstone (in the process)--Gay would certainly fit that billing. It basically sounds as though everyone in Toronto is 'fair game' when it comes to trades Back to the Wolves though. I do expect Kahn to make some sort of trade, but I have no idea how 'big' it will be. Will Kahn end up pulling the trigger on a deal that's good short-term, but idiotic long-term? I'm all for making the team better and so long as Ricky Rubio, Kevin Love & Nikola Pekovic are still on this team on February 22nd, I'll be a happy man. I am VERY worried about Pek though, the more I hear about him and his impending free agency this summer (as well as Minnesota's infatuation with guys like Anderson Varejo & Pau Gasol) the less likely it seems he'll be with the Wolves to start 2013-14. That's all for now, thanks for reading HOWL and GO WOLVES!
