Year-Round News & Updates on the Minnesota Timberwolves
The hiring of Ryan Saunders as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves was officially announced today (7/1).
Saunders joins his father Flip in Minnesota after spending the past five seasons with the Washington Wizards (initially getting a job there when his father became their head coach). Saunders joins Sam Mitchell, Sidney Lowe & David Adelman on the Wolves staff, which could very well include one additional member. That person could very well be Chauncey Billups. Billups' $2.5million team option with the Detroit Pistons was declined earlier today and Billups is ultimately deciding whether he'd like to try and play another season or if he'd like to explore other avenues. Those other avenues include: becoming a TV broadcaster, working in an NBA front office or potentially joining Flip in Minnesota as an assistant coach. If Billups does decide to retire and doesn't take Flip up on the offer to be an assistant, the Timberwolves could very well stick with four assistant coaches.
