Year-Round News & Updates on the Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves currently have fifteen players with guaranteed contracts going into the 2014-15 season.
Their current depth chart... PG: Ricky Rubio, Mo Williams, J.J. Barea SG: Kevin Martin, Zach LaVine, Chase Budinger SF: Andrew Wiggins, Corey Brewer, Shabazz Muhammad PF: Thaddeus Young, Anthony Bennett, Robbie Hummel C: Nikola Pekovic, Gorgui Dieng, Ronny Turiaf As the roster currently stands, the Wolves will go into the season with two rookies (Wiggins & LaVine). However, the Wolves are trying to find a taker for J.J. Barea who is in the last year of his KAHNtract. Mo Williams replicates a lot of Barea's strengths and is historically a more trustworthy guard. If the Wolves are able to find a taker for J.J. Barea, the assumption is that the Wolves would sign their other pick in the 2014 NBA Draft: Glenn Robinson III (selected 40th overall). J.J. Barea is by and far my least favorite 'Wolf' of all-time and I would be more than happy to see him go. If the Wolves can't find a taker for J.J. it sounds as though the option of releasing him, is 'on the table'. Watching GR3 last season and in the Summer League this year, I really like his game and I think we may have gotten a steal at 40th overall. The Wolves are a little heavy on the wings, but I'd love to see him join this young, talented core. In addition to J.J. Barea, it sounds as though Saunders wouldn't mind parting with Chase Budinger either. That may be more speculation, but after multiple knee injuries and as a result of those: poor play, if a team is willing to take him off the Wolves hands, they would probably look to move forward. It would open up more time for LaVine, Wiggins & Muhammad (three players with some serious potential). The Wolves Media Day will take place on September 29 from 11:30am-2pm. The Wolves will then have seven days until they take on the Indiana Pacers (Oct. 7) in their first preseason action. In addition to the 15 players listed above, it's expected that Glenn Robinson will also be part of the training camp roster, as well as a number of others: Kyrylo Fesenko & Brady Heslip (among others).
