Year-Round News & Updates on the Minnesota Timberwolves
Mickael Gelabale has been a rumored TWolves target since Josh Howard went down for the season with a torn ACL. Word came recently that Gelabale would be travelling to the States to negotiate a deal with an NBA team.
ESPN's Marc Stein says the injury-riddled TWolves are the likely destination for Gelabale. Darren Wolfson reported a few weeks ago that there was another team that had some interest in Gelabale. News broke yesterday that guard Malcolm Lee would be undergoing two separate surgeries next week and thus would be out for the season. The Wolves could look to file for a disabled player option that would allow them to still keep Lee under contract, but sign another player, despite being at the maximum of 15. This can only be done when a player has a season-ending injury. Lazar Hayward is still under contract until January 17th (when his 10-day contract expires) it remains to be seen if the Wolves will resign him after that to another 10-day OR a rest-of-the-season contract OR they could look to sign someone else like Gelabale with that open roster spot, rather than filing for a disable player option. Gelabale has said he'll only return to the NBA if a team is willing to give him a 20-day guarantee. He also has until the end of January to opt-out of his contract with Valencia, after that he'll be overseas for the season. As such, we should be hearing more on Gelabale in the very near future...stay tuned! Thanks for reading HOWL and GO WOLVES!
