The TWolves cruised to an easy win over the Denver Nuggets on the back of two big runs that propelled the Wolves to the win. Minnesota scored 68 points in the first half. Those 68 points were a season-high for a Nuggets' opponent this season for total first half points. The TWolves were up 25 points going into halftime. Minnesota used a 23-9 run in the first half to grab the lead. The TWolves started off hot in the third quarter and were able to bump the lead to 28 on the back of a 14-0 run. The Nuggets were able to cut that down to just 18 going into the fourth quarter. The TWolves got a big win over a division rival and a team that they'll be fighting for a playoff spot in the lower seeds of the Western Conference these last 15+ games. Let's take a look at some of tonight's top performers... Top Performers
HOT: KEVIN LOVE! KEVIN LOVE! KEVIN LOVE! Mr. Love followed up his career night on Friday with a 30-21 game. Kevin Love is a star in this League. I don't know how many more times/how many more ways I can say that! For the Nuggets, their young rookie Faried had a solid game. He got a lot of easy buckets on long outlet passes for a big dunk or easy lay-in. NOT: Wes Johnson continues to struggle. Those struggles have been well-documented all season long. Derrick Williams also had an off-night. With Pek out, D-Will has been given a chance in the starting lineup, but he just HAS NOT produced. With Pek likely out for the remainder of this week, hopefully he can turn things around. Ty Lawson had 14pts & 5ast for the Nuggets but had a rough shooting night: 5-14 FG. MISC.: The Wolves had six total players in double figures, beyond the above three: Beasley w/11, Tolliver w/10 & Webster w/10.......14 of Kevin Love's 21 rebounds were defensive.......The TWolves had six players with at least 3 assists: Williams (3), Love (4), Ridnour (6), Tolliver (3), Ellington (3), Lee (3).......Hamilton had 6reb in 17 minutes off the bench....... TEam statistics
KEY STATS: The TWolves knocked down a bunch of threes and hit the freebies (FTs). It's surprising looking at these stats though. The Nuggets shot a better percentage from the field, had more points off the bench: a +6, more points on the break: a +27, more points in the paint: a +26. The Nuggets' downfall was their poor three-point and free-throw shooting as well as their 17 turnovers.
FINAL NOTES: The Nuggets were without Danilo Gallinari (thumb), Rudy Fernandez (lower back) & Arron Afflalo (suspension) in this one......The TWolves were without Nikola Pekovic (bone spurs in ankle) & J.J. Barea (right thigh contusion)...... UP NEXT: Tuesday March 27th vs. the Memphis Grizzlies, @Fed-Ex Forum Thanks for reading HOWL and GO WOLVES!
