Year-Round News & Updates on the Minnesota Timberwolves
NBA players are trekking overseas--travelling to four different continents to play in the World All-Star Classic--as it's being called.
The tour starts Sunday in Puerto Rico. There have been a number of different players who were going to be involved but have decided to drop out. The full list currently is: Amar'e Stoudemire, Blake Griffin, Carlos Boozer, Chris Kaman, Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, Tyson Chandler & Kevin Love. Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant & Dwayne Wade will not participate in Sunday's game in Puerto Rico, but will likely join them at their next stop. All-Stars LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony & Chis Paul have decided no to take part in the tour and Kevin Durant is still 'wavering' on whether he'll play in any of it at all. LeBron, Melo & Paul have said that they want to take advantage of the lockout and spend more time with their families. Chris Paul, who is a member of the player's union's executive committee and he wants to be available for any labor meetings that take place with the owners. From the beginning Derrick Rose & Russell Westbrook decided not to be involved. The reigning MVP Rose stated that, "The schedule was just too tough." Another early candidate--Steve Nash won't be invovled in the tour either. The tour's other stops include: London, Macau & Melbourne Austrailia. Portions of the proceeds from the tour will be donated to various charities on behalf of the players and the event.
