Year-Round News & Updates on the Minnesota Timberwolves
Just sixteen months after the Timberwolves pried him away from the Detroit Pistons, Assistant GM Tony Ronzone and the Wolves have "mutually agreed" to part ways.
Ronzone was initially brought on to revamp the Timberwolves' scouting department and to help improve the teams less-than-stellar performance in the draft.
Ronzone helped with two Timberwolves drafts: last year's that brought a main cog: Wesley Johnson into the mix and this year's that brings the second overall pick: Derrick Williams to the Wolves. His other key contributions include: with David Kahn--convincing Ricky Rubio to play for the Wolves in 2011-12. He also was helped work out the trade with the New York Knicks & the Denver Nuggets that brought Anthony Randolph & Eddy Curry (later waived) to the Wolves, while sending out Corey Brewer (later waived and signed with Dallas) & Kosta Koufos.
It's been reported previously that President of Operations David Kahn & Now-Former-Assistant GM Tony Ronzone had certain philosophical differences (of opinion) when it came to certain issues--likely contributing to his departure with Minnesota, at this juncture.
At this time, it's pretty unclear whether the Wolves will replace Ronzone--hire a new Assistant GM going forward. However, like most jobs at this time--why pay someone, to do nothing (during the lockout).
