Year-Round News & Updates on the Minnesota Timberwolves
Rubio helping Williams after practice The Minnesota Timberwolves are getting more and more involved in the All-Star Weekend. Last year, it was just Kevin Love as an All-Star. This year: Love is an all-star once again, he'll participate in the Three-Point Contest, Rubio & Williams are going to participate in the Rising Stars Challenge...and now Derrick Williams has been chosen to be part of the 2012 Slam Dunk Contest! "I'm excited. Being a part of this...everyone can see my athletic ability," Williams said. "I found out this morning. It's a real honor...Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter...I grew up watching those guys!" The Dunk Contest takes place the day before the All-Star game: February 25th. Last season's winner was Blake Griffin after he "jumped over a car". Griffin declined to participate this season, though. In addition to Williams, there are three other participants this season: Houston's Chase Budinger, Indiana's Paul George & fellow rookie New York's Iman Shumpert. Williams isn't the first Timberwolf to take part in the Slam Dunk Contest. Former Wolves to partake: Gerald Green, Chris Carr, Doug West & J.R. Rider (Rider won in 1994). Derrick Williams says Ricky Rubio will be helping him prepare for the contest. "Hopefully Ricky can help out. It's a fan vote, everyone likes Ricky!" Derrick Williams has attempted 20 dunks this season and made 18 of them! Need validation for Williams being in the dunk contest? Watch this... Thanks for reading HOWL and GO WOLVES!
