Year-Round News & Updates on the Minnesota Timberwolves
David Kahn has reportedly working the phones hard and one offer he made was to the division rival Denver Nuggets. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the Wolves offered Brandon Roy and a first round pick (likely the Memphis pick the Wolves own) for big man Timofey Mozgov.
The Nuggets turned down the offer and reportedly have had or have better offers on the table for Mozgov. Timofey will be a restricted free agent this summer, so the Wolves could sign him outright and Denver will almost certainly not match, that assuming they don't move him to another team before then. According to Darren Wolfson, the Wolves would be very interested in him if he hit free agency this summer. Does that mean the Wolves aren't interested in bringing back Nikola Pekovic this summer or perhaps (and I hope) they won't be picking up Greg Stiemsma's option for the 2013-14 season. It sounds as though both David Kahn and Rick Adelman are 'high' on Mozgov and I'm sure fellow Russians Andrei Kirilenko & Alexey Shved put in a good word--the three were all members of the Russian National team this summer. With Minnesota offering up Brandon Roy it's now certain he won't be playing another game in a TWolves uniform. If his contract isn't move by the Deadline or next summer, his option for the 2013-14 season will not be picked up. Offering up Roy's $5M contract that can be voided next season is a decent trade chip. If the Wolves are looking to deal during before Thursday's deadline, here's hoping it's for a true shooting guard. And beyond that, here's hoping any trade doesn't disrupt any long-term success with a short-term mindset (thanks to aging owner Glen Taylor and head coach Rick Adelman as well as David Kahn fighting for an extension this summer). That's all for now, trade or not we'll have plenty of updates going on these next two days! Thanks for reading HOWL and GO WOLVES!
