Year-Round News & Updates on the Minnesota Timberwolves
Kevin Love played the best month of basketball in his entire playing career, but it wasn't good enough to win the Western Conference Player of the Month. That accolade instead went to the Clippers' Blake Griffin. Love averaged 34 points, 14.1 rebounds, 4 assists on 49% FG & 42% 3PT in 36.9 minutes per game. Griffin averaged 30 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists on 55% FG & 30% 3PT in 36 minutes per game. Love's 34 points per game & 14.1 rebounds per game ranked him #1 for the month in both categories, for the entire NBA. On NBA.com (the NBA's official site), the say that Griffin was one of just two player in the entire NBA to average 30 points & 10 rebounds for the month of February. They left it at that, not acknowledging that Love averaged 4 more points and 4 more rebounds for the month. Ultimately, the award was based on team record. Unfortunately for Kevin, the Clippers went 7-5 in February, while his Wolves went 5-7 (which included a four-game losing streak). Love didn't play in two of those losses of that four-game losing streak. So, technically the Wolves were 5-5 with Love in the month of February. Kevin Love followed up the 'snub' with his worst scoring game since Jan. 25th vs. the Blazers when he finished with 15 points, with a 19-point game and a Wolves loss against a Knicks team that had lost 13 of their last 15 and 7-straight overall. Miami's LeBron James was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month. Love will look to get back on track vs. the long athletic frontcourt of Josh Smith, Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond of the Detroit Pistons when they come to town on Friday night.
