Year-Round News & Updates on the Minnesota Timberwolves
Sure, Kevin Love is a two-time All-Star, he was last year's Most Improved Player, he's a key part of Minnesota's incredible improvement this season, he's the NBA's Three-Point Champion and he's in the Top 5 of the NBA MVP race this season, but today, Kevin Love will be getting his greatest honor of all: the Sea Life Aquarium will be naming a new octopus after Kevin Love! The Sea Life Aquarium at the Mall of America will release the octopus "KLove" during a special event today at 3:30pmCT, the real Kevin Love is expected to be a part of the event and the release of his Octo-buddy! In a press release the Sea Life Aquarium staff had this to say about the reason they chose an octopus to be named after Minnesota's newest and one of their biggest stars (along with Ricky Rubio, Vikings' Adrian Peterson and of course Twins' Joe Mauer). "Both the octopus, K-Love, and Kevin Love have excellent grabbing ability - one to grab boards, the other mainly grabs food. An octopus is also one of the smartest animals in the sea, while Kevin is surely one of the smartest on the court. Lastly, both Kevin and K-Love will be making Minnesota proud for many years to come." That's all for now, thanks for reading HOWL and GO WOLVES!

Kevin Love & Ricky Rubio graced the cover of Slam Magazine in their current issue. Much like the Timberwolves giving a nod to the ABA Minnesota Muskies with their hardwood classics uniforms on select games this season, Love & Rubio struck a familiar pose as a nod to the best TWolves duo in Minnesota history: Kevin Garnett & Stephon Marbury.
KG & Marbury may currently be the best duo in TWolves history, but these next few years, I think we can count on Kevin & Ricky taking that honor! All in all, it was a cool throwback cover for SLAM and some good recognition for the Timberwolves as they've certainly surprised with their improved play--the Wolves are, right now, tied for the 8th seed in the Western Conference with the Houston Rockets. Thanks for reading HOWL and GO WOLVES! UPDATE (3/7/12; 1:55pmCT): According to CSNNW, the Timberwolves would send Luke Ridnour to Portland in exchange for Crawford. Ridnour could/would start at point guard for Portland and Jamal could take Luke's place in the rotation. I don't know that I really like this trade, Luke really brings a lot to the table. I would be MUCH more comfortable with the Wolves sending out J.J. for Crawford. Word is, a Ridnour for Crawford trade is a backup plan, if Portland can't acquire Phoenix's Steve Nash, Boston's Rajon Rondo or Toronto's Jose Calderon.
This summer the Minnesota Timberwolves were interested in signing free agent guard and scoring specialist Jamal Crawford. According to multiple sources Jamal Crawford was VERY interested in signing with Minnesota, but the Wolves wanted him to be patient while they explored all their options. Crawford, on the other hand, wanted to be in camp before the season started and ultimately signed with Portland--replacing the retiring Brandon Roy. The Wolves, soon after signed J.J. Barea to a 4-year deal. Crawford signed a 2-year $10million contract. Each year is worth $5million and the second season is worth the same amount and is a player option for next season. If he remains in Portland, word is he definitely plans to opt-out of his contract and retest free agency for a second-consecutive summer. Which is the biggest reason Portland wants to move him, if he remains, he'll leave via free agency over the summer--leaving Portland, with nothing. The Blazers apparently see Crawford as expendable. He was moved into the starting lineup in place of Raymond Felton. However, according the Oregonian, Nate McMillan (head coach in Portland), plans to move Raymond Felton back into the starting lineup as the team's point guard (moving Crawford, back to the bench). The two teams that are reportedly pushing the hardest to acquire Crawford are the Timberwolves and the Clippers. There's no doubt that the Wolves would be able to give the Blazers back better players. Perhaps of combination of Randolph & Ellington (two players buried at the end of the bench and completely out of Adelman's rotation), or perhaps even Michael Beasley (who Minnesota has been pushing hard to move). Beyond the Clippers & the Timberwolves, the Kings, Raptors and Bucks have also expressed interest in Jamal (according to Hoopsworld). There's no doubt Jamal Crawford is the ideal player the Timberwolves need. A scoring guard who can play both positions. A veteran presence and a player capable of creating his own shot. He would be a perfect fit next to Ricky Rubio, if he worked his way into the starting lineup...otherwise an ideal sixth man scorer off the pine. Keep an eye on Jamal Crawford as the March 15th Deadline is just over a week away! Thanks for reading HOWL and GO WOLVES! The Los Angeles Lakers are interested in Michael Beasley, however, not at the cost of the Wolves' current offer.
According to multiple sources the Wolves offered Michael Beasley to the Lakers for a first round pick. The Lakers are able to take on Beasley's $6.2million contract from the $8.9million trade exception they got for trading away Lamar Odom. However, the Lakers aren't interested in Beasley unless they're sending the Wolves a big contract back in return. Beasley's contract would add to the Lakers' luxury tax bill. The Lakers have to pay roughly $18million already in taxes this season. There is a 'dollar-for-dollar'penalty for tax-paying teams, which would mean Beasley's contract would add $6.2million to the Lakers' total bill. The fact remains Michael Beasley still remains on the block. The reported interested teams include: Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, New Jersey Nets & Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics' trade rumor is Beasley for Jermaine O'Neal! Yes, you're not the only one who finds that absolutely ridiculous...expect, David Kahn...likely... The trade deadline is roughly two weeks away and there's no doubt the rumors will continue to swirl. Below are two stories we had last month on a few more of these trade rumors...
