Year-Round News & Updates on the Minnesota Timberwolves
Andrei Kirilenko has had one of his best NBA seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves this year. After spending a year playing in his native Russia and winning the Euroleague MVP, AK returned to the NBA this season with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Today it was announced that Andrei is the recipient of the Euroscar European Player of the Year Award. It's given annually to the top European Basketball player. The award is voted on by players, coaches and sportswriters from 14 countries. Some past winners include six-time winner Dirk Nowitzki (2002-06, 2011), three-time winner Pau Gasol (2008-2010), Tony Parker (2007) and Peja Stojakovic. Those are/were some very good players in the NBA, no doubt this is an incredible honor for the 10th year pro. The award will be presented to AK prior to Wednesday's game vs. the San Antonio Spurs. Are you really surprised? Do you honestly believe he'll be back on the floor this season...or ever again?
While he could still return, Roy continues to have setbacks that have allowed him to play just five games this season. Because there's no treatment that will take away the pain in the knees, if he wants to return to the court, it will be because he's simply going to play through the pain. Roy talked to the media on Thursday and shared that he had suffered yet another setback this past weekend (on Saturday). He had a good practice the day prior (Friday) and was thinking he was getting very close to a return to the court, but then, on Saturday he tweaked that right knee. Roy underwent arthroscopic knee surgery a couple months ago and was set to return about a month ago. Unfortunately he suffered a setback shortly before he was scheduled to return. Now, the same thing has happened. After that last setback, David Kahn said Roy was going to take 2-3 weeks and pursue a non-invasive treatment. We found out on Thursday that, that 'treatment' was a new (bulky) knee brace that would take some of the pressure off of the area(s) that bother him. With it has come some hamstring pain. If Roy ever does return this season, it will likely be for 1-2 games a week and very limited minutes off the bench. That's all for now, thanks for reading HOWL and GO WOLVES! |
