The Wolves sat Corey Brewer, Kevin Martin, Andrew Wiggins, Mo Williams and Ronny Turiaf. As a result, Saunders started Rubio, Budinger, Muhammad, Young and Pekovic.
The Milwaukee Bucks countered with Brandon Knight, Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jabari Parker and John Henson. The Bucks were without their starting center, Larry Sanders as he recovers from surgery (though he should be ready for the Bucks' season opener next week). The two players that don't usually start (Budinger & Muhammad) both played a game-high 33 minutes. Muhammad finished with a game-high 19pts on 6-13 FG, 1-2 3PT and 6-8 FT in addition to 5reb, 3ast, 2stls, 1blk, 1to & 4fls. Chase Budinger finished with 15pts on 5-12 FG, 3-7 3PT, 2-2 FT as well as 7reb, 2stls & 2tos. With no Larry Sanders and the Bucks relying on John Henson & Michael Eric at center, Pekovic had his way in the paint. He shot 6-for-11 from the field and finished with 15 points and was the only player tonight in double digits on the boards with a game-high 13. The Wolves definitely have a style of play that they're leaning on. They like to play quickly offense. They use all their long, athletic gambling perimeter defenders to force the team in turnovers that they capitalize on, quickly. The Wolves forced the Bucks into 23 turnovers and scored 25 points off of them. They finished with 18 fast break points and did so without two of their best transition players (Wiggins & Brewer). Jabari Parker was the only Bucks starter to finish in double digits. He scored 18 points (12 of which came in the second quarter). He also added 9 rebounds. He is fully entrenched as the Bucks' starting power forward. It's most likely that Milwaukee's starting lineup will include: Brandon Knight, Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jabari Parker and Larry Sanders. Antetokounmpo is certainly a player with a lot of crazy potential. However, tonight he was putrid offensively. He scored just 1 point and shot 0-for-7 from the field. He did add 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks. Unfortunately, he also added 8 turnovers and 3 fouls and got into a couple altercations with Shabazz. He'll definitely get a lot of burn with the Bucks this season. The Wolves have just one preseason game remaining. They'll play the Bulls on Friday night in Chicago. That one will tip at 7pmCST.
